A Film About Substance Use Prevention
About the Film
Parents can’t afford to ignore the pressures their children face to try drugs and alcohol. From school hallways to social media to pop culture, your child lives in a world that encourages substance use. Through interviews with parents, drug prevention experts and one brave mother sharing her son’s story, DON’T WAIT provides insights on why it’s essential for parents to talk to their kids early and often; how to best approach these conversations; and what to do if you spot the signs of drug and alcohol use in your child.

“Don’t Wait is simply essential viewing for any parent or caregiver. The film thoughtfully addresses many topics that parents encounter when navigating substances with their children (i.e. what to say if my child asks if I’ve used drugs, what signs to be aware of to detect if my child is using, how to talk to a child of any age about drugs in a meaningful way). I have been in the substance use field for over 8 years and took away new things from the film, especially when viewing it through the eyes of a parent. We are so grateful that Addiction is Real created such a powerful and informative film on substance use prevention.”Kimberly Sherony, All in Clayton Coalition
“WOW! We found ourselves just nodding our heads with you and crying with you and ‘Ah-ha-ing’ with you. We can’t wait to ask our family with our grandkids to watch and absorb. The group has had a great conversation going on after this movie.”Jan Stuckey, ARCHway Institute
“Drug Free Punta Gorda held our virtual Coalition meeting today and aired Don’t Wait! People were awestruck and remarked what a “powerful” film it was. We used some of the questions/conversation starters in your discussion guide, and our meeting actually ended up going almost 30 minutes over, which never happens! Thank you for producing this amazing and powerful video!”Chrissie Salazar, Drug Free Punta Gorda
“The film was amazing but the conversation afterwards was even more amazing. To be honest, I was surprised by some of the questions asked by some of the professionals in the field that are members of this coalition. You guys did a fantastic job and I can only say how impactful it was. We loved the conversation today that pushed us to think more about reaching the parents vs the focus only being on the kids.”Dan Stuckey, ARCHway Institute
